Williamstown Cal Ripken Team Wins Fourth Straight
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown Police Cal Ripken Baseball team ran its winning streak to four games and improved its overall record to 9-3 with recent victories over Lenox Police and the previously undefeated Pownal Carbone Auto.
On Saturday against Lenox, Jack Cangelosi, Josh Polumbo and Xander Axt had RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Police to a 6-5 comeback victory, with Axt hitting the game winner. John Skavlem chipped in with two hits and two RBIs for Police. Polumbo got the start and hurled three scoreless innings and Axt picked up the victory in relief.
On Tuesday night vs. Pownal Carbone Auto, Cangelosi struck out eight in a 9-2 complete gave victory over the undefeated league leaders.
Jack Gitterman’s two-RBI single helped break open a scoreless game in the third inning. Cangelosi was aided by several outstanding defensive plays by the left side of his infield, Oscar Low and Thomas Martin.
