
Hoosac Valley Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Autumn C. Fetridge has earned the distinction of being named as valedictorian and Marlena R. Horton as salutatorian for the class of 2016 at Hoosac Valley Middle and High School.
Commencement exercises will be held this Friday, June 3, at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Fetridge is the daughter of Frank and Monica Fetridge of Cheshire. During her high school career at Hoosac Valley, she was a member of the Leo Club for four years; the National Honor Society and Student Council for two years and she has been a member of the marching and concert band, playing the clarinet for four years.
Her leadership roles include two years as the treasurer of the class of 2016 and she is the current treasurer for Student Council. She is a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. She has received several Presidential Awards for Academic Excellence: AP Chemistry, Physics, Spanish and Pre-Calculus.
This fall, Fetridge will attend the University of Massachusetts, where she will major in animal science.
Horton is the daughter of Wayne and Judy Horton of Adams. During her high school career at Hoosac Valley, she also was a member of the Leo Club and National Honor Society for two years. Her athletic history includes three years playing junior varsity soccer and two years of JV basketball. In her senior year, she was a manager for the girls varsity basketball team. One of her most important leadership roles was as a peer tutor for all four years.
Horton is also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and received several Presidential Awards for Academic Excellence: AP Chemistry; Algebra II Honors; Chemistry Honors; Literature & Composition II Honors. In her junior year, she was awarded the Williams College Book Award and the University of Rochester Xerox Award.
She was accepted early decision to Williams College, which she will attend this fall.
