Hilltown Firefighters Battling Blandford Blaze
BLANDFORD, Mass. — Firefighters from several communities responded to a fully involved structure fire on Brookman Drive.
The blaze was reported at about 5 p.m. on Monday in a house that had reportedly been vacant for many months.
According to scanner reports, the building was "fully engulfed" and a secondary structure was also in flames. There was concern about the proximity of propane tanks on the property and that the fire was encroaching upon.
Blandford Fire was responding along with crews from Otis, Monterey and Tolland. New Marlborough was asked to cover the Monterey station. The Hinsdale rehab unit was being called in and National Grid was on the scene. Hilltown Ambulance was also staging nearby.
The fire was reported "under control" about 5:30 p.m. The state fire marshal was being called to the scene.
About 7 p.m., New Marlborough was released from covering the Monterey station.
Brookman Drive is a populated dead-end road that runs north from Moureau Road along Otis Reservoir.
