Adams Fall Run Gives Back to Vets, Volunteers

Fall Run Chair Michael Steuer presents a check to American Legion Post 125 in North Adams on Tuesday.

ADAMS, Mass. — Three months after nearly 300 motorcycles rode through town for the annual Adams Fall Run, the organizers are giving back to the veterans who helped make the event possible.

Michael Steuer of Legion Post 138 in Spencer and chair of the Fall Run, said the proceeds were up more than 30 percent over last year. The benefit ride raised $15,000 in 2021. The run will distribute 100 percent of the funds raised back to veterans, which he said is especially important this year.

Steuer presented checks to American Legion Post 160 in Adams and Post 125 in North Adams on Tuesday; several members of each post participated in planning or the ride itself. On Thursday, he visited Post 155 in Dalton to do the same.

"I think we had a great wonderful day. And someone really cast a good stone on us to have wonderful weather again," Steuer said. "We had 225 riders, and then we had a group of 50 show up that came up to visit us with heritage bikes."

When visiting the Legions, Steuer thanked several people for their help with logistics and other contributions to the event. He said that, despite a few minor hiccups, there were no major issues.

"Nobody ever knows what really goes on before the ride. That morning, we found out that part of our route is on a dirt road. GPS doesn't show you that," he said. "... And as you know, if it rains, nobody gets anything."

The extra money this year, Steuer said, allowed the group to give money to several beneficiaries, compared to two last year.

"Our sponsors were really good to us this year," he said. "That made up some of the difference and allowed us to take the total pot of the revenue and spread it out."

After receiving funds from the fall run last year, Post 125 kept a list of all the things done with last year's donations, which members showed to Steuer. He said, after the time and effort the volunteers put into the ride, seeing exactly where the money raised has gone to

"That is all I ask. That, to me, is worth gold," he said.

Adams Community Bank Holds Annual Meeting, Announce Growth

ADAMS, Mass. — The annual meeting of the Community Bancorp of the Berkshires, MHC, the parent company of Adams Community Bank, was held on April 10, 2024, at Charles H. McCann Technical School in North Adams.

The meeting included reviewing the 2023 financial statements for the Bank, electing directors and corporators, and highlighting upcoming executive personnel changes.

"In 2023, the Bank experienced another year of growth in assets, loans, and deposits, noting the Pittsfield branch reached $26 million in customer deposits from its opening in December of 2022," President and CEO of Adams Community Bank Charles O'Brien said. "Those deposits were loaned out locally during 2023 and helped drive our #1 ranking in both mortgage and commercial real estate lending, according to Banker and Tradesman."

At year-end 2023, total assets were $995 million, and O'Brien noted the Bank crossed the $1 billion threshold during the first quarter of 2024.

Board chair Jeffrey Grandchamp noted with O'Brien's upcoming retirement, this will be the final annual meeting of the CEO's tenure since he joined the Bank in 1997. He thanked him for his 27 years of dedication to the Bank. He acknowledged the evolution of the Bank as it became the premier community bank in the Berkshires, noting that branches grew from 3 to 10, that employees grew from 40 to 135, and that assets grew from $127 million to $1 billion.

An executive search is underway for O'Brien's replacement.
