No Races On Adams Ballot

ADAMS, Mass. — No actual races will be on the ballot this year with all candidates running unopposed.
 
For the most part, only incumbents have returned papers this March, and there will be no challenges to current seatholders.
 
Selectwoman Christine Hoyt, Moderator Myra Wilk, Assessor George Haddad, Board of Health member David Rhoads, Library Trustee Linda Rhoads, Parks Commissioner Jacob Schutz, Planning Board Member Michelle Picard, Cemetery Commissioner Fredrick Hobart, and  Housing Authority Member Kelly Rice all have returned papers.
 
On the school side Daniel Maloney, Jr. will return to the Northern Berkshire Regional Vocational School District Committee. Adam Emerson will return to the Hoosac Valley Regional School District Committee, but he is a Cheshire representative. 
 
There are two newcomers who will run unopposed: Andrew Lukasz Przystanski has pulled papers for the Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee and Ann Bartlett will take a Housing Authority seat.  
 
There are a few seats that will be left unfilled. There is an open Library Trustee seat, a Parks Commission seat, a Housing Authority seat, and a Redevelopment Authority sea.
 
The annual town election is on May 1 at the Memorial Building located on 30 Columbia St. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Adams Parts Ways With Police Chief

ADAMS, Mass. — The town has parted ways with its police chief. 
 
K. Scott Kelley "is no longer employed by the Town of Adams," according to interim Town Administrator Holli Jayko. 
 
The Board of Selectmen voted on Sept. 8 to put the police chief on a paid leave of absence but town officials have declined to answer repeated questions about the nature of the absence other than to clarify it was not a "suspension."
 
His departure follows an executive session held by the Selectmen last Wednesday to discuss a personnel matter other than professional competence, including health or discipline, or dismissal. 
 
A request for further information on whether Kelley's leaving was through resignation or termination was not provided, or whether his contract had been paid out. 
 
"The Town does not comment on personnel matters and will have no further comment on this matter at this time," responded Selectmen Chair John Duval via email on Friday. 
 
Kelley, who moved here to take the post of chief in 2021, has reportedly sold his home.
