ADAMS, Mass. — St. Stanislaus Kostka School has established the Quinn Connally Memorial Scholarship Fund, created to honor the life and legacy of Quinn Connally, a student at the school who passed away after a hockey accident while in seventh grade.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of Quinn's passing.

The Quinn Connally Memorial Scholarship Fund ensures that his legacy will endure by helping future students receive the gift of a Catholic education rooted in faith, service, and academic excellence, stated a press release.

The school is also announced that the scholarship fund has received an inaugural leadership donation of $100,000 from the Flatley Foundation, a prominent Catholic foundations in the Northeast.

"We are deeply grateful to the Flatley Foundation for this extraordinary and generous gift," said Principal Chris Bersaw. "Their support not only makes the Quinn Connally Memorial Scholarship Fund possible for years to come, but it also sends a powerful message about the importance of Catholic education and the lasting impact it has on young lives."

The Quinn Connally Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide tuition assistance to students who demonstrate financial need and who embody the values fostered at the school, including faith, compassion, perseverance, and community. This fund enables St. Stanislaus Kostka School to extend its outreach and assist even more students to grow in knowledge, character, and faith, continued a press release.

"This scholarship is a beautiful way to remember Quinn," said Judy Roy, School Board Chair. "It transforms a profound loss into hope for future generations and reflects the mission of our school and the strength of our Catholic community."

Cheshire Shifts Focus From Merger to Improving Police Department

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
CHESHIRE, Mass. — The town will be seeking volunteers to serve on its police chief search committee.

The process of finding, interviewing, and selecting a qualified candidate is expected to take several months.

Interim Police Chief Timothy Garner, who has not accepted a stipend for the post, advocated that the board have a start date after the fiscal year to ensure voters approve the funds for the salary.

"I'm more than happy to stay until the first of the fiscal year. If you want to wait until a budget is in place where you can actually advertise [a salary already approved at town meeting,]" the retired chief said.

"If you do it now and you put somebody in there, what are you going to offer that might go away at town meeting."

The town has been in discussions with the Lanesborough Police Department to explore the feasibility of a merger.

However, after preliminary talks, that appears unlikely. As a result, the board is refocusing its efforts on strengthening its own department.
