WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — North Berkshire Community Dance will hold its monthly contra dance on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Ace caller Luke Donforth will lead the evening, supported by live fiddle music from Trois Amis.

Luke Donforth, the caller, will teach all the dances, starting with a fun introductory lesson at 7:15 pm.  Luke Donforth is a contra caller and choreographer based in Burlington, VT.

Music will be provided by Trois Amis, a superb band, that has brought many years of happy dancing to communities around New England. Trois Amis is Laurie Indenbaum on fiddle, Andy Davis on accordion, and Maryy Cay Brass on keyboard.

The dance will run 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church, 906 Main St., Williamstown. Introductory lesson at 7:15. Admission is pay-as-you-can:  $12 - $20 suggested; no one turned away for lack of funds.

Contra dancing is a living tradition in New England; for hundreds of years, neighbors and friends have made their own social entertainment in this easy and highly collaborative dance form.  All are welcome.  Come alone, or with friends -- most people change partners for each dance throughout the evening. New dancers and families with children are encouraged to arrive by 7:15 for instruction in the basics.

There will be a pre-dance calling workshop/practicum, 2-4pm in Goodrich Hall on the Williams College campus. Bring a dance you’d like to workshop in a friendly group setting – or simply help out as a biddable dancer on the floor.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Rev. Darrell Goodwin told attendees at Wednesday's "PrayAction Breakfast" that they need more action to make their prayer effective.

"Sometimes prayer causes us to be in deep reflection," Goodwin told the group gathered at the Williamstown Meetinghouse. "And years and years and years pass, and we've actually done nothing about it.

"Our physical belief system is somehow: Say the words to God, and it becomes God's responsibility, and we've done our part because we've told God exactly what to do."

Goodwin, the president of the United Church of Christ's Southern New England Conference, was invited to Williamstown by First Congregational Church to speak on "The Challenge of Christian Nationalism."

And Goodwin challenged his listeners to take meaningful action to confront and address the ideology in their daily lives.

Christian Nationalism, which Goodwin referred to as White Christian Nationalism, is a perversion of Christ's teachings, he said.

"What does it mean to be spiritually grounded but practically committed?" Goodwin asked rhetorically. "This morning I've been asked to come here to talk about Christian Nationalism, but I think it would be remiss if I didn't say White Christian Nationalism. I want to name all three of these words because each tells us something that we must do.
