DAILY DIGEST

ROAD CLOSURES: Route 8 in North Adams is closed from the Clarksburg town line to just north of Bluff Road.

April 17, 2014: On this day in 1970, the astronauts aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft were returned safely to earth after an oxygen tank exploded, causing the craft to lose some power, heat and water. The near-disaster was immortalized in Ron Howard's 1995 movie, in which Tom Hanks gets to utter those famous words: "Houston, we have a problem." The kids at Cheshire Elementary School had no problem with a space program presented at their school on Thursday; check out some video here and here.
