Henry E. Irace, 91

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Henry Ernest Irace, 91, of 33 Lyman St. died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in North Adams on Oct. 17, 1920, son of Luigi and Elizabetta Rosata Irace, he attended Drury High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in Alaska, the Aleutians and South Pacific, participating in the Battle of Okinawa. Mr. Irace worked at the former General Electric in Pittsfield for 17 years, until his retirement in 1982. Before that, he was a crane operator for David Dean Construction for 24 years. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a member of the Frank Stiles Post 125 American Legion and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wife, the former Shirley Beatrice Floyd, whom he married on May 7, 1946, died on Feb. 12, 2005. He leaves two sons, Louis Irace and his wife, Jo-Ann, of Stamford, Vt., and Floyd "Chip" Irace and his wife, Linda, of Port Orange, Fla.; a sister, Rose E. Girardi of North Adams; two brothers, Austin Rogge of Adams and John Irace of New Castle, Pa.; three grandchildren, James Irace of Readsboro, Vt., Anthony Irace of the town of Florida and Jennifer Irace of Pittsfield; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Henry and Olivia, and several nieces and nephews. His six sisters, Angelina Laino, Josephine Scalise, Philomena Richardello, Frances Louison, Mary Maselli and Constance Briola, predeceased him. FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Irace will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 9 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services Meals on Wheels in care of the funeral home.
