SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Playing an understaffed Commerce squad allowed the McCann Tech girls' soccer team a unique opportunity to play some of its younger players in the Hornets' 8-1 road win over the Red Raiders on Tuesday. As a result, seven different players scored goals for McCann, including three players who notched their first goals on varsity.

Senior Brittany Briggs started the scoring with a goal off of a penalty kick just five minutes into the game. She then assisted on a tally by junior Katie Hancock three minutes later before Alex Lincoln, Mary Nguyen, Morgan Roy and CJ Schliech each added goals before halftime. It was the first career goal on varsity for both Roy and Schliech, and sophomore Jocelynne Smith later joined the party by scoring her first goal with 30 seconds left in the game.

Nguyen added a second goal with five minutes remaining, while sophomore Jordan Prevey assisted on both of Nguyen's tallies in the game. Commerce received its lone goal from Dennies Jones five minutes into the second half.

Senior Becky Daniels and sophomore Alex Wood each made two saves in net for the Hornets (2-0), while sophomores Audrey McDonald and Claire Gagliardi were both standout performers on the McCann defensive end.

The Hornets are back in action again on Wedneday, hosting St. Joe's at 4 p.m.
