HATFIELD, Mass. – The road weary Mount Everett girls soccer team gave up a late goal at Smith Academy to settle for a 2-2 tie on Thursday.

“I think the wear and tear of being on the road finally caught up with us today,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We were missing some players due to sickness, have a lot of girls banged up from multiple days of playing, and just ran out of gas at the end of today's contest.”

Mount Everett was playing its third game in three days, including back-to-back road trips north into the Pioneer Valley to Turners Falls and Hatfield.

Allison Steurernagle and Emily Steuernagle each scored an unassisted goal, and Emma Wilson stopped 10 shots in the Mount Everett goal.

“I'd rather tie than lose, but the girls definitely were not thrilled with a tie especially how we played,” King said. “We have some things to tighten up regarding decisions with the ball, simple passes, and locking down better as an entire team defensively but I'm proud of how we've competed over this 3-day stretch. None of these games have been easy games and everyone plays with high intensity and resilience.”

Mount Everett (6-2-2) goes to Lenox on Saturday.
