GRANBY, Mass. – The Granby girls soccer team scored in overtime Saturday to beat Mount Everett in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class D tournament.

Emily Steuernagle and Chevelle Raifstanger each scored a pair of goals for the Eagles in a back-and-forth game.

“Granby had a great counter attack in overtime, and it was a mad scramble in front with Granby eventually finding the game-winner,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said.

Emma Wilson made 13 saves for the Eagles, who are 9-6-3 but actually 9-5-4 for MIAA state tournament seeding purposes, since games that are tied at the end of regulation in the Western Mass tournament count as ties.

Mount Everett learns Wednesday who its first opponent will be in the Division 5 State Tournament.

“We have nothing to hang our heads about, as I told the girls,” King said of Saturday’s loss. “We showed grit by fighting back multiple times and dealing with some key injuries in the second half that put us in a tough spot. We’ll take [Sunday] off and then look to practice the next couple of days waiting for the final power rankings to come out.”
