Eva J. Klein

Eva J. Klein, 69, of Clayton-Mill River Road, Mill River, died Tuesday at Great Barrington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Barkhamsted, Conn., on May 5, 1932, daughter of Carl and Eva Hortie Jespersen, she attended the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. She was employed as a bus driver for more than 30 years by the Southern Berkshire Regional School System. She retired from Price Chopper in Great Barrington in 1997 after 18 years of service. A member, choir member and former deacon of the United Church of New Marlboro, Mrs. Klein was a clerk for more than 30 years at the church. She was a 50-year member of the former Monterey Grange. She leaves her husband, Henry Klein, whom she married Jan. 15, 1950, in Hillsdale, N.Y.; a daughter, Irene Yeager of Pittsburgh, Calif.; a brother, Carl Jespersen of Cypress, Calif.; two sisters, Elna Rodda of Hancock and Harriet Kenny of Newington, Conn.; a grandson, and a great-grandson. A daughter, Laura Jean Grassette, died in 1974. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 at the United Church of New Marlboro, Southfield, with the Rev. Joseph Bishop, officiating. Burial will follow in Stonybrook Cemetery, Great Barrington. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 on Friday, Sept. 14, at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the United Church of New Marlboro in care of the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
