Arthur G. LaBonte, 74
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Arthur G. "Buster" LaBonte, 74, of 5 Mundy Terrace died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 24, 1938, son of George and Elaine Dean LaBonte, he attended the former St. Joseph's School and Drury High School.
A decorated veteran of the Marine Corps, he served with the Military Police as a lance corporal from 1957 to 1961 with the 42nd Special Infantry Company.
Mr. LaBonte was the owner and operator with his wife, the former Jeanne L. Duhamel, of the Ashland Street Mini-Mart. He had also been employed by the local Price Chopper Supermarkets as a meat-cutter.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a member of the Moose Club and the Greylock Community Club. He was an avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan. He took pride in meticulous maintenance of his yard, enjoyed travel, playing golf and, especially, enjoyed spending time with his family.
He and his wife were married on June 15, 1963 in the former Holy Family Church.
Besides his of 49 years, he leaves four daughters, Michele Vareschi and her husband, Lee, Denise France and her husband, Maver, of Moneta, Va., Leslie Hyte and her husband, Anthony, of Hinsdale, and Cheryl Truskowski and her husband, John, of Readsboro, Vt.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. LaBonte will be Monday, April 22, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Saturday, April 20, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
