James Masterone

James L. Masterone, 79, of Hunters Creek Drive, DeLand, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died Wednesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1922, son of Victor and Louise Ferreti Masterone, he attended local schools. He moved to DeLand in 1991. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Masterone served in Germany and France and was a prisoner of war for one year. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired heavy equipment operator who worked in Berkshire County and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He leaves his wife of 54 years, the former Beatrice Roy; a son, Michael Masterone of Warren; a daughter, Christine Ostrowski of South Windsor, Conn.; a sister, Mary Marsh of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren.
