Mary B. Zauls, 73

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Mary B. Zauls, 73, of 471 Paines Creek Road, Brewster, a native of North Adams, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Hyannis Hospital. Born on July 27, 1939, daughter of William A. and Helen Gazzaniga Parisien, at home on the family farm on the Mohawk Trail, where her parents later operated the Rainbow Motel, she attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. She also graduated from what was then North Adams State College in 1961 and received a master's degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State University. Mrs. Zauls began her career teaching first and second grade in Athol and later taught in Williamstown and Adams. She lived in Vergennes, Vt., and later in New Fairfield, Conn., during which time she taught reading and literature at the Green Chimney School in Putnam Lake, N.Y,. until her retirement. After living in Marlborough for a few years, she moved to Brewster following her husband's retirement. She enjoyed the arts, especially oil and acrylic painting, and was a member of the Yarmouth Art Guild and the Monday Painters. She enjoyed the opera and was a member of Opera New England of Cape Cod. She also enjoyed travel, especially her trips to Europe and Latvia. She loved life on Cape Cod, which included long walks with her dog enjoying the natural beauty of the cape and shell fishing. She leaves her husband, Juris Zauls, whom she married on March 5, 1965; a son, Juris V. Zauls and his wife, Synnove, of Westport, Conn.; two sisters, Joan H. Parisien of Beverly and Marcia A. Dagnoli and her husband, Donato, of Adams; a brother, Dr. William A. Parisien Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Hadley; three grandchildren, Tristan, Gersemi and Gustav, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother Louis W. Parisien died July 17, 1955. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mrs. Zauls will be Wednesday, June 12, at 11 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 10, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested for the New England Airedale Rescue, 3 Carter Road, Cornwall Bridge, CT 06754.
