Walter H. Scace

Walter H. Scace, 90, of 369 East Harbor Road died yesterday at Williamstown Commons, where he had resided for a year. Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1911, son of Charles H. and Jessie Parker Scace, he attended schools there. Mr. Scace owned and operated a farm in Dalton, where Wahconah Regional High School now stands, from June 1950 until August 1958. He worked at a farm in Cheshire from 1959 to 1969, then went to work at GE for nine years before returning to farming in Dalton. He later worked in the GE scrap and salvage department for 10 years, retiring in 1979. After his retirement, he was employed at Jaeschke's Apple Orchard in Adams. He was a member of Immanuel Community Church in Pittsfield. His wife, the former Nellie A. Near, whom he married April 4, 1937, died Dec. 30, 1987. He leaves a daughter, Nancy Kenny, with whom he had resided; three sisters, Ella May Fyfe of Stratford, Conn., Caroline S. Bryant of California, and Florence Rayner of Pittsfield; a grandson, and four great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Kathleen Ann Kenny, died in August 1969. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Carl K. Towley, chaplain of Berkshire Medical Center, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. If friends desire, donations are suggested to Immanuel Community Church.
