Dr. Norman V. Bianco, 94
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dr. Norman V. Bianco, 94, of 130 Marion Ave. died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the North Adams Regional Hospital.
He was the last member of the prominent Bianco family and a longtime dentist.
Born in North Adams on Aug. 19, 1919, a son of John and Rose Sbarbaro Bianco, he graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1937. He also attended Villanova University and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with bachelor of science degree in 1942. He graduated in 1945 from the University of Maryland Dental School with a degree in dental surgery.
While in dental school, he served as a private, first class, with the Army. He was commissioned as a lieutenant with the Navy Dental Corps from 1945 to 1947.
Dr. Bianco returned to North Adams after his military career and opened his practice of family dentistry, retiring in 1987 after 41 years of service to the community.
He was a member of the American Dental Society, Massachusetts Dental Society and the Berkshire County Dental Society. He was a member of the McCann School Committee and was a founding member of the dental assistance program.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Building Committee, which was responsible for the building the present church.
Dr. Bianco was a member the North Adams American Legion, North Adams Elks Club and a past president of the Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club and also was a member of the North Adams Country Club.
His wife, the former Lorena Picker, whom he married Oct. 6, 1945 in Baltimore, died June 5, 2011.
He leaves a son, Dr. James M. Bianco and his wife, Martha, of Hollis, N.H.; three daughters, Rosemary Bianco of Mystic, Conn., Patricia Willette and her husband, David, of North Adams, and Linda Williams and her husband, Richard, of Clarksburg; five loving grandsons, Ross R. Williams of New York City, Nathaniel D. Willette of Missoula, Mont., Griffin D. Willette of North Adams and Michael P. and John J. Bianco of Hollis, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Sean B. Williams; two sisters, Rita Sharron and Dolores O'Neil, and six brothers, Philip Bianco, William Bianco, Joseph Bianco, Ernest Bianco, Lionel Bianco and Dr. Harvey Bianco.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Dr. Bianco will be Friday, Sept. 27, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Sean B. Williams Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
