Gioia M. Zappone, 84

ADAMS, Mass. — Gioia Marie Zappone, 84, of 4 Wilfred Ave. died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Craneville Place in Dalton. Born in North Adams on July 10, 1929, daughter of David and Constance Gigliotti Mancini, she attended local schools. Mrs. Zappone was last employed at the rectory of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church, where she worked as a cook and housekeeper for many years. Before that, she and her husband, Anthony F. Zappone, operated the Twin Sisters Bed & Breakfast on South State Street, off Curran Highway. In her younger years, she assisted her family in the operation of the former North Adams Diner. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing. Her husband, whom she married on oct. 22, 1955, died on March 29, 2012. She leaves a daughter, Donna Boesse and her husband, Michael, of Adams; two sons, James Zappone and his wife, Rose Anne, of Pownal, Vt., and David Zappone and his companion, Sherry Therrien, of Adams; four sisters, twins Gabriela Bond and Dolores Bianco, and Violet Torchia, all of North Adams, and Faith "Dolly" Trottier and her husband, Al, of Manchester, N.H.; 11 grandchildren, Sonya, Michael, Justin, Joshua, Jessica, Jonathan, Emily, Chad, Kari, Jacob, and Kayla; her great-granddaughter, Skyana; nieces, nephews and cousins and three sisters-in-law, Betty Gagne, Arlene Zappone and Mary Girgenti, all of North Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Zappone will be Monday, Nov. 18, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children Hospital in Springfield in care of the funeral home.
