John M. Bertoli Sr., 76

ADAMS, Mass. — John M. Bertoli Sr., 76, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Adams, died Nov. 15, 2013, in Florida. Born in Adams on Feb 22, 1937, son of George and Helen Cumberland Bertoli, he graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams and from Aircraft and Engine School in Boston. He had also resided in Williamstown and North Bennington, Vt. Mr. Bertoli was employed as a sign maker for the last 30 years of his life. He became a born-again Christian 22 years ago and devoted the rest of his life to Jesus Christ. He truly loved Word of Life Fellowship in Hudson and that it gets the word out about the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for 38 years and attained the rank of colonel as the Northeast Region commander. He attained his small engine pilot's license in 1991. He was member of Gulf Coast Amateur Radio Club as N1BJT, and loved to do DX (speaking two-way with another operator) on his amateur radio. He talked to people all over the world. He also was a member of the Northeast BMW Motorcycle Club. His interests were old planes, flying, old motorcycles and watching television shows about restorations of old cars, motorcycles, planes. His first wife, the former Rivena Gleba, died in 1985. He and his wife, the former Carol Schmidt, were together for 28 years. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Carolyn Burnett and her husband, Jay, of Williamstown and Deanna Todd and her husband, Mark, of Cheshire; a son, John Bertoli Jr. of Pittsfield; a brother, George Bertoli and his wife, Peggy, of Port Orange, Fla.; a sister, Marilyn O'Brien of Holyoke, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Bertoli will be held at Word of Life Fellowship at a date to be determined. Omission of flowers is requested; memorials and love gifts may be sent to Carol Bertoli at Word of Life Fellowship, 13202 Word of Life Drive 94, Hudson, FL 34669 to help with medical and funeral expense.
