Yvonne Castegnaro

Yvonne L. Castegnaro, 61, of 361 Bradley St. died Sunday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a long battle with Crohn's disease. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 28, 1939, daughter of Patrick S. and Geraldine Monterosso Fillio Nigrelli, she graduated from Pittsfield High School and moved to Lee in 1957. She was employed by the W.T. Grant store as a sales clerk in 1956 and, in the 1960s, worked for the former Angelo's Snack Bar. She also worked for Lee Pharmacy, the Morgan House Restaurant and at Burger King and Pizza Hut in the 1970s before retiring because of ill health. She attended First Congregational Church. An avid fan of Elvis Presley, she was known as the "Elvis Lady." She and her husband, John A. Castegnaro Sr., celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary June 21. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, John A. Castegnaro Jr. of Pittsfield and James "Smiley" Castegnaro of Lee; a daughter, Janice Castegnaro Braim of Lee; three sisters, Patricia A. Scieniewski, Christine C. Castegnaro and Janie Ray, all of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Nigrelli, was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 1964. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Lee, with the Rev. Bert Marshall, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
