Gerald John Appleby, 40, of 225 East Main St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in Manchester, Conn., on Aug. 4, 1961, son of Gloria Bieu Appleby-Johnston and the late Gerald H. Appleby, he attended schools there and graduated from Manchester High School in 1980. Mr. Appleby was employed as a roofer for several companies in Connecticut for several years. He moved to Berkshire County several years ago, settling in North Adams. He was employed by Burger King in Lenox for a short time until ill health forced him to retire. He enjoyed playing chess and his guitar, the outdoors, and music. Besides his mother of North Adams, he leaves a son, Thomas Jarvis of Middletown, Conn., and a brother, David Appleby of North Adams. Graveside services for will take place Friday morning at 10 at the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours.
