Sylvia Ginsburg, 92
ADAMS, Mass. - Sylvia Ginsburg, 92, formerly of Adams died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home of Longmeadow, where she had resided since 2008.
Born in Adams in 1921, daughter of Jacob and Dora Rosen Wineberg, she graduated from the former Adams High School and attended William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
Mrs. Ginsburg's early years were spent helping her father with the Myrtle Street Market that later became part of the former Adams Super Markets. Her husband, Edwin Ginsburg, whom she married in 1946, became a principal in the markets.
She was an active member of the Northern Berkshire community during her 87 years in Adams until becoming ill with dementia. She was a member of Hadassah, Temple Anshe Amunim in Pittsfield and Congregation Beth Israel in North Adams. Mrs. Ginsburg also was an accomplished watercolor artist and won awards for her work in several shows throughout Western Mass. She was very close with her family and hosted social events whenever possible.
Her husband died in 1980.
She leaves her daughter, Ruth Ginsburg of Marlborough; her son, Michael Ginsburg and his wife, Sally, of Somers Conn.; two grandchildren, Elliot Ginsburg and his wife, Laura, and their son, Harold, all of Minneapolis, and Jillian Palash and her husband, Ross, of Greenwich, Conn.; many nieces and nephews, including Howard Wineberg and his wife, Debbie, of Adams, Susan Gold of Williamstown, Ellen Wineberg of Watertown and Jane Ginsburg of Lowell, and her close friend and sister-in-law, Florence Wineberg of Adams.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mrs. Ginsburg will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, Lois Street, in North Adams, with burial to follow in Beth Israel Cemetery in Clarksburg. Following the burial, a memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth Israel at 5 p.m. A memorial service will also be held at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m.
