Robert Broderick

Robert E. "Captain" Broderick, 77, of 25 Cliffwood St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 27, 1923, son of Edward and Marion Holland Broderick, he moved to Lee as a child and graduated from Lee High School. He served in the Army during World War II in the China, India and Burma theater. After his military service, Mr. Broderick returned to Lee, where he worked at the First National Store, the Lee Super Market and Nejaime's Market. He was most recently employed by Lee Park Cleaners, until retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Lee Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of the Berkshire Hills Council 314 Knights of Columbus. He leaves his wife, the former Mary E. Ford, whom he married Jan. 31, 1948; a son, Robert W. Broderick of Lee; two daughters, Patricia A. DiGrigoli and Deborah A. Tobler, both of Lee; four brothers, Franklin Broderick of Windsor Locks, Conn., Richard Broderick of Pittsfield, James Broderick of the state of Florida, and Paul Cella of Lenox; a sister, Elizabeth Evangelisto of Pittsfield, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday morning at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School or to the Lee Regional Visiting Nursing Association in care of the funeral home.
