John J. Dougherty, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John J. Dougherty, 89, of Quincy, formerly of North Adams, died peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Falmouth Hospital, after battling pneumonia.
Born in Everett on Sept. 6, 1925, son of Bernard and Mary Josephine Dougherty, he was raised in Jamaica Plain and was a proud graduate of Boston College High and Boston College. He also attended the Wharton School in Philadelphia.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines.
Mr. Dougherty retired as president of Cascade School Supplies, completing 35 years with the company.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
His wife of 57 years, the former Geraldine Ahern, died in 2009.
He leaves four sons, Michael Dougherty of Naples, Fla., Daniel Dougherty of Bennington Vt., Brian Dougherty of Rutland, Vt., and Patrick Dougherty of San Francisco; three daughters, Julie Jackson and her husband, James, of Yarmouth, Maine, Mary Jo Toms and her husband, Michael, of Charlottesville, Va., and Jean Wishingstone of Mashpee; his sister, Margaret Haley and her husband, Paul, of Weymouth; five grandchildren, Dylan, Cotter, Wyatt, Mairead and Aidan; his sister-in-law, Eileen Dougherty of West Roxbury, and nieces and nephews.
His brother, William Dougherty, predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — It was Mr. Dougherty's wish that there be no funeral services. His burial will be arranged privately by the family.
