Stanley M. Uchman, 91
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Stanley M. "Mike" Uchman, 91, of Notch Road died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in Adams on April 20, 1923, son of Jakub and Aniela Kaszybski Uchman, he was the last surviving of their 11 children: Josephine, Jessie, Wanda, Frank, Genevieve, Stephen, Casimer, Joseph, Irene and Daisy. He attended Adams schools.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Uchman was employed for 39 years at the former General Electric in Pittsfield, not missing a day of work during 29-year span. He rode his bike the 45-mile round trip to GE numerous times and on his day of retirement.
He loved being outdoors and physically active, including a lifetime of tennis, golf, biking, swimming and cross country skiing. His daily routine included exercising at the YMCA until he was age 87. Above all, his family and faith were the hallmarks of his life. He lived a full life, guided by his Christian principles that were exemplified by his loving dedication to his family.
He leaves his wife, Erika A. Uchman; two daughters, Elka Uchman and Brenda Iijima and her husband, Toshi, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A celebration of the life of Mr. Uchman will be announced in the spring. Donations may be made to his childhood school, St. Stanislaus Kostka School, 108 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220 and the Berkshire Food Project, 134 Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
