Gertrude Fields, 96
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Gertrude Fields, 96, of 118 Church St., Proprietor's Field, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Canada on Feb. 16, 1919, a daughter of Evariste and Marie Louise Serre Lefebvre, she attended schools in North Adams including the former Notre Dame Parochial School.
Mrs. Fields was employed by the former Arnold Print Works in Adams, retiring in 1973. She had earlier worked 15 years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.
She was a past commander and member of the Disabled American Veteran and American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary for many years. She was a communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael Church, a member of the Friendship Club and a volunteer at the Harper Center. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Her husband, Admiral D. Fields, whom she married on Sept. 6, 1941, died June 25, 1998.
She leaves her two loving daughters, Caroline Horan and her husband, Daniel, of Pownal, Vt., and Linda DuPont and her husband, Archie, of Adams; four grandchildren, Dennis Horan and his wife, Paula, of Delaware, Lisa Bechard and her husband, Craig, of Williston, Vt., Tammy Thayer and her husband, William, of North Adams and Travis DuPont and his wife, Christa, of Adams; six great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ashley Thayer; her sister Marie Jean St. Jacques; and seven brothers, Charles, Romeo, Leo, Jacque, Gaston, Aimee and Paul Lefebvre.
FUNERAL NOTICE A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Fields will celebrated Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will take place in the spring.
A calling hour will be held Saturday from 11:30 to 12:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Patrick's Church Food Pantry through the funeral home.
