Arlene Alarie

Arlene Alarie, 81, of 119 Commercial St. died Tuesday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on March 28, 1920, daughter of Gustave and Marguerite Krause Stamwitz, she attended local schools. In her early years, she was employed as a housekeeper and cook for many area families. She then worked for several years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and at the former Adams Laundry and the former Berkshire Hathaway Co., both in Adams. She retired from the former Adams Super Market as a cashier after 30 years of service. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Cheshire Senior Citizens. Her husband, Francis E. Alarie Sr., whom she married April 15, 1939, died Feb. 24. She leaves a son, Francis E. Alarie Jr. of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, William Stamwitz, and a sister, Ruth Hess. The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7.
