Ruth Guartha

Ruth Guartha, 91, formerly of Route 57, died Sunday morning at Fair Oaks Assisted Living Facility in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she had been a resident. Born in Mill River on June 11, 1910, daughter of Thomas and Rose Bailey Davis, she was a 1927 graduate of the former Searles High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Guartha was a member of United Church and the Umpachene Grange, where she was a past officer. She received her 60-year pin in 1986. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in St. Petersburg. She enjoyed traveling to Florida and moved there permanently in 1982. Her husband, Russell J. Guartha, whom she married June 22, 1940, died Dec. 17, 1993. She leaves two sons, David R. Guartha of Southfield and Kenneth C. Guartha of New Marlboro, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 10 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Joseph Bishop, interim pastor of United Church of New Marlboro. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Marlboro Emergency Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
