Ernest H. O'Dell, 83
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ernest Hannen O'Dell, 83, of North Adams, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in North Adams on March 8, 1932, son of Walter and Eugenia LaBonte O'Dell, he attended local schools.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Airborne Division as a paratrooper.
Mr. O'Dell was last employed by Local 98 as an operating engineer for heavy equipment for many years.
He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125 and the Eagles, and of Kennedy-Chamberlain VFW Post 8503 in Shelburne Falls. He enjoyed dancing and trips to the casino.
His wife, the former Vivian Delisle, who he married on July 7, 1956, died on April 23, 2000
He leaves a son, Todd O'Dell of Shelburne Falls; three brothers, Walter O'Dell of Clarksburg, Arthur O'Dell of Bernardston and Paul O'Dell of Shrewsbury; five sisters, Harriet Mahar of Cheshire, Violet Sherman of Titusville, Fla., Shirley Cormier of Charlemont, Constance Billiel of Colrain and Barbara Ireland of Ashby; two grandchildren, Michael and Kristen, nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Gladys Luczynski of North Adams.
He was predeceased by his son Keith O'Dell on March 6, 1993, and his brother, Eugene O'Dell.
