Mary G. Ram

Mary G. Ram, 78, of Hopedale, formerly of Milford, died yesterday morning at Hearthstone on Golden Pond in Hopkinton, where she had resided for four years. She was the mother of Mary T. Makuc of Monterey. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 16, 1923, daughter of Joseph B. and Margaret Hogan Shaughnessy, she attended the former St. Mary's School in Milford as a young girl and graduated in 1940 from the former St. Mary's Academy, where she was valedictorian. She also graduated from Elms College in Chicopee and attended graduate classes at Boston College. She was briefly employed as a chemist before becoming a teacher, later teaching in the Franklin and Milford public schools. She retired in 1984. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Milford, where she was a member of its former Catholic Women's Club and its choir and was a volunteer teacher in the CCD program. She was a past member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. She was a pro-life advocate and a founding member of the Milford chapter of Massachusetts Citizens for Life. She also was a founding member of Massachusetts Democrats for Life and a member of Life Line in Milford. Her husband, Victor C. Ram, died in 1995. Besides her daughter, she leaves another daughter, Peggy Flynn of Hopedale; two sons, Michael F. Ram of San Francisco and David J. Ram of Conway, and 10 grandchildren. Funeral from EDWARDS MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 44 Congress St., Milford, Thursday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Milford, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions to The Covenant House, 460 West 41st St., New York City, NY 10036.
