Dorothy A. Geary

PITTSFIELD -- Dorothy A. Geary, 81, of 112 Doreen St. died Thursday. Born in East Arlington, Vt., on Sept. 16, 1920, daughter of Raymond and Edna Ennis Elwell, she attended schools there. She was a 1938 graduate of Arlington Memorial High School, where she was class valedictorian. She also graduated from the former Henry Bishop School of Nursing in 1941. Mrs. Geary was employed by Berkshire Medical Center for many years and was instrumental in developing their surgical recovery unit. She retired in 1978 as head nurse. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed playing the piano for her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting Irish sweaters and baking for her family and friends during the holidays. Her husband, William T. Geary, whom she married March 6, 1943, died May 18, 1998. She leaves a son, Dennis Geary of Pittsfield; two daughters, Martha Geary of Richmond and Jane Rudolph of Pittsfield; a brother, Maurice Elwell of Lincoln, Maine, and seven grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Dorothy A. Geary, 81, died Oct. 4, 2001. Mrs. Geary is also survived by her seven grandsons, Charles, William, Michael, Joseph, Conor, Matthew and Denis; as well as her son-in-law, Charles, and her daughter-in-law, Susan. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association or St. Joseph's Church in care of the funeral home.
