John J. Gwozdz, 72

CHESHIRE, Mass. — Mr. John Joseph Gwozdz, 72, of Fales Road died Saturday morning, March 26, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

He was born in Adams on August 25, 1943, a son of the late John and Mary (Schneider) Gwozdz. He attended Cheshire schools and graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1962. He then graduated from the Machinist Program at C.H. McCann Technical School in North Adams.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army in the First Aircraft Maintenance Battalion from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1971.

A machinist by trade, Mr. Gwozdz first worked at the former Hunter Machine Co. in North Adams for several years. He then went to work at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, and its successors, including General Dynamics, where he retired in 1998 after 25 years of service. He then worked for H & R Machine Co. in Adams for several years, until finally retiring in 2011.

He enjoyed gardening, playing guitar, model airplanes and CB radios and was a Volkswagen enthusiast. He was an avid motorcyclist and was a member of the Hoosac Valley Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Linda L. Perrier, whom he married on July 11, 1969; a daughter, Jessica Gwozdz of North Adams; a son, Jeremy Gwozdz and his wife, Giselle, of Cheshire; a grandson, Andrew Gwozdz of Cheshire; two brothers, Joseph Gwozdz and his wife, Nancy, of Cheshire, and Arthur Gwozdz and his wife, Cathy, of Essex Junction, Vt.; two sisters, Barbara Gordon and her husband, Arthur, of Pittsfield, and Pat Webb and her husband, Lee, of Grants Pass, Ore.; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral service: The funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, at 8:45 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, celebrated by Rev. Matthew Guidi. Burial will be private.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
