Alan A. LaFleur, 92

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Alan Arthur LaFleur, 92, beloved husband and father, of 6 East Walnut St., died Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016, at his home. 

He was born in Adams on March 18, 1924, a son of the late Arthur and Marie (White) LaFleur, and attended Adams schools. 

He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters and witnessed the raising of the first American flag on Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged in 1952. 

Mr. LaFleur was a carpenter all of his life, and was a member of the local Carpenter's Union for over 40 years. He built his family's home on East Walnut Street in Adams in 1948. He will be dearly missed. 

He was a member of the Carpenter's Union and Adams Post 160 American Legion. 

He is survived by his wife of 67 1/2 years, the former Janet M. Gajda, whom he married on September 6, 1948; a daughter, Susan LaFleur of Cambridge; a son, Alan D. LaFleur and his wife, Patricia, of Mountain View, Calif.; grandchildren Scott LaFleur and his wife, Jaclyn, and Renee Werness and her husband, Jonathan; and his great granddaughter, Harper LaFleur, all of Mountain View, Calif.; a brother, Daniel LaFleur of Adams, and his children and grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Frances Bassi and her husband, Bernard, of Adams, who were very instrumental in Alan's care, and their children, David, Karen, Jason and Dr. John Bassi, and their children; as well as several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 9, at noon in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, pastor of St. John Paul II Parish. Relatives and friends are invited. Paciorek Funeral Home in Adams is in charge of arrangements. 

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours.
