Edward J. LaBonte Sr., 90

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Edward Joseph LaBonte Sr., 90, of 546 Union St., North Adams, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Williamstown Commons.

He was born in North Adams on December 11, 1925, a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Dupree) LaBonte. He attended schools in North Adams.

Mr. LaBonte was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas, where he served in the battles of Normandy and Okinawa. He received his Honorable Discharge on December 21, 1945.

Mr. LaBonte worked for many years in the Power Transformer Division of the former General Electric Co., Pittsfield, until retiring in 1988. Earlier he had worked for the former Sprague Electric Co., North Adams.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, North Adams.

His wife, the former Lucille Allard, whom he married on July 6, 1945, died on September 25, 1999.

He is survived by his son, Thomas LaBonte and his wife Ruth of Colorado Springs, Colo., his daughter-in-law, Donna LaBonte of Adams; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and all the wonderful residents at Village East.

He was predeceased by his son, Edward J. LaBonte Jr., and by seven sisters and one brother.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Monday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, McKinley Square, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

Calling hours are Monday, April 18, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
