Bertha C. Zelazo, 92

ADAMS, Mass. — Bertha C. Zelazo, 92, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at her home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 6, 1923, daughter of the late Archie and Bertha Balz Thomson of Pontoosuc Lake, she attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1941. Bertha also was a graduate of the former St. Luke's Hospital Nursing School, where she became a registered nurse.
Bertha was employed as a visiting nurse in Pittsfield, and after her marriage became employed for the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital in Adams, and for the former North Adams Hospital, where she worked primarily in the maternity ward and was nurse union steward until she was promoted to assistant night nursing/ hospital supervisor. During WWII she was also a cadet nurse in Pittsfield.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church Woman's Society in Adams, a member of Adams Post 160 of the American Legion Auxiliary, the N.A.R.H.. Retired Nurses and the St. Luke's Alumni.
Her husband Stanley F. Zelazo, whom she married on May 15, 1948, and who was an Army captain during WWII, died July 24, 2008, after 60 years of marriage.
She is survived by four sons, Robert (Sandra), William (Nancy), Frank (Darlene) and John; a daughter, Barbara Zelazo (Mike Scher); a sister, Margaret Coles of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law, Catherine Zelazo of Adams; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister Rose, who died in 1989.
Funeral notice: Services and burial for Bertha will take place in Albany Rural Cemetery in Albany, N.Y., at a later date. The Trottier Pringle Funeral Home, 6 Summer St. in Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
