Elizabeth A. Gagne, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Zappone) Gagne, 81, of North Adams died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her home.

She was born in North Adams on June 30, 1934, daughter of James and Antoinette (Macchia) Zappone. She attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1952.

Betty first worked at New England Telephone Co. and Sprague Electric Co. After raising her family, she returned to McCann Technical High School, where she completed her degree in hair styling and beauty culture. Betty was the owner and operator of the Greylock Beauty Shop until her retirement.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was devoted to her family. Betty enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Daniel Gagne, whom she married on October 24, 1953 in St. Anthony of Padua Church; one daughter, Susan Wabnig of Plainfield, Mass.; three sons including David D. Gagne of Monroe, Mass., Robert M. Gagne of Olathe, Kan., and Donald R. Gagne of North Adams; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Girgenti, Carmen Woodside and Theresa Dabrowski; and three brothers, Anthony, Vincent and Jerry Zappone.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Betty Gagne will be Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 8 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.  Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.  

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.  Memorial donations may be made to Learn to Cope in care of the funeral home or at learn2cope.org.
