Paul Michael Leon, 84

POWNAL, Vt. — Paul Michael Leon, 84, a resident of Mann Hill Road, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
Paul was born in Boston, Mass., on May 2, 1934, the son of the late Phillip and Florence (Decoteau) Leon. He received his education in Boston schools, graduating from Roslindale High School. He continued his education attending the University of Massachusetts. Paul was a United States Army Veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict.
Upon his honorable discharge, Paul worked as a master electrician for 45 years and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #7. He was superintendent of Fire Alarms in Pittsfield, Mass., for 15 years, taught classes at Berkshire Community College and was the main distribution driver for the U.S. Post Office.
Paul was very active in American Legion Post 90 in Pownal, serving as Commander and Adjutant. He was a HAM radio operator and member of the International Municipal Signal Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. Paul extensively traveled all over the world, was a former Eagle and Beaver Scout and Boy Scout and Sea Scout leader.
Paul is survived by his wife Virginia Leon of Pownal, whom he married in Dalton, Mass., in May 1980; children Michael John Leon of Seattle, Wash., Phillip Edward Leon of Berkshire, Mass., Brenda Leon of Seattle, Wash., Carol Leon of New Jersey, Dianne Leon of Michigan and Joanne Leon of California; step-children Susan Bravos of Cortland, N.Y., Pamela Durham of Austin, Texas, and Diane Vittone of Pownal, Vt.; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen Johnson and stepson Theodore Shogry, Jr.
Funeral notice: A visiting hour will be held at the Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from noon to 1 p.m. Funeral services for Paul will be held Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 1 p.m. at he Vermont Veterans Home Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel.
