Thomas Janeczek, 18, Mt. Greylock graduate

LANESBORO -- Thomas Andrew Janeczek, 18, of 48 Greylock Estates Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Aug. 31 in Hancock. Born in El Paso, Texas, on March 7, 1983, son of John T. and Rita Karhan Janeczek, he attended Lanesboro elementary schools and was a 2001 graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown. He was enrolled as a freshman this year at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, where he planned to major in environmental science. While in high school, he held several part-time jobs and played on the Mount Greylock football, baseball and wrestling teams. As a senior, he was chosen to be an intern with fourth-grade students at Lanesboro Elementary School and was a peer counselor for the peer team at the high school. He enjoyed playing golf and wiffle ball, and was a Boston Red Sox fan. He was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church, where he served as an altar boy when he was younger. Besides his parents of Lanesboro, he leaves a sister, Lindsay M. Janeczek of Lanesboro, and his paternal grandmother, Mary Urban Janeczek of Meriden, Conn. Tommy is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas A. "Tommy" Janeczek, 18, who died Oct. 12, 2001, will be Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Committal services will follow in the new Mountainview Cemetery in Lanesboro, where burial will take place at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Monday, from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to establish a scholarship fund in Tommy's memory for Mount Greylock Regional High School in care of Adams Co-Operative Bank, 545 South Main St., Lanesboro, MA 01237.
