Robert J. LaPierre, 83

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Robert Joseph Hugh LaPierre, 83, of North Adams passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Berkshire Medical Center North.

He was born in North Adams on April 11, 1933, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline (Stanisky) Lapierre. He was a Korean War veteran, serving with the United States Army as a Corporal, and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

Bob graduated from the Franklin Institute, where he went for 12 years at night while working two job. He then obtained his bachelors of science degree in 1972 from North Adams State College. Bob also took classes at Williams College. He was employed at Sprague Electric Co. as a wage and compensation manager. After Sprague closed he was employed as a sales associate at Sears Roebuck in Lanesborough.

Bob was a third degree Mason with the Greylock Lodge and member of the Order of Mount Moriah in the year 1967. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams since 1956.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary (Slade) LaPierre whom he married on January 22, 1955, at the First Baptist Church of North Adams; one son, Michael LaPierre and his wife Darlene of Adams; one granddaughter, Danielle LaPierre; one sister, Joan Farinon of North Adams; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral notice: Private graveside services will take in the family plot in Clarksburg Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

I knew Bob and Mary from Landmark Credit Union. Bob, was always a pleasant man.
