Marie R. Coleman, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Marie Rita (Scavo) Coleman, 81, of Ormond Beach, Fla., died Monday, August 15, 2016, at Brookdale Ormond Beach-West in Ormond Beach.
She was born in Springfield, Mass., on December 6, 1934, daughter of Angelo A. and Jessie (Esposito) Scavo. She attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1952. Marie also graduated from the St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield.
She worked as a registered nurse and was last employed as the assistant director of the American Red Cross chapter in Nashua, N.H. While in North Adams, Marie was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Marie was an enthusiastic volunteer and supporter of several charities and non-profit groups. Among others, she volunteered with the Red Cross to provide disaster relief assistance to victims of Hurricane Andrew; she assisted the Juvenile Diabetes Association in fund-raising activities; and she organized a regatta for disabled rowers in her work with the Lioness Club local affiliate in New Hampshire. Most of all, Marie was devoted to her immediate and large extended family and was proud to have been raised in North Adams.
She was the widow of William Edward Coleman, who died on April 5, 1990. They were married on September 3, 1955.
Marie is survived by her son, Kevin W. Coleman of Calistoga, Calif.; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter- Kimberly Ann Coleman-Reilly, who died on February 19, 2001.
Funeral notice: The funeral for Marie Coleman will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the BrightFocus Foundation for Alzheimer's Research.
