John N. Decker Jr., 83

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Nelson Decker Jr., 83, of North Adams died Thursday, October 6, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., on January 12, 1933, son of John Nelson Decker and Stella (Starsiak) Decker. He attended Adams schools and graduated from the Adams High School with the class of 1951.
John first worked at the former Wendell Hotel and then at Hillcrest Hospital. In 1965, he moved to Albany, N.Y., where he went to work for the New York State Government for 26 years until his retirement in 1991. He returned to North Adams in 2010.
He was a communicant of St. John Paul the Great Church in Adams. John enjoyed attending family events and outings. He especially enjoyed the theater in North Adams, Williamstown and Pittsfield and going to the movies.
Survivors include one brother, Robert A. Decker and his wife Christine of North Adams; 17 cousins; five nieces; two nephews; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Fortier.
Funeral notice: The funeral for John Decker will be Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St, North Adams. Burial will be at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams.
A calling hour will be held on Tuesday morning from 10-11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
