Harry E. Budz, 85

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Harry E. Budz, 85, of 123 Front St., Housatonic, died Wednesday at Laurel Lake Center for Rehabilitation in Lee. Born in Housatonic on July 2, 1916, son of George and Anna Klimek Budz, he graduated from the former Searles High School in 1935. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the European theater and received a number of medals and decorations. Mr. Budz was employed as a meat cutter for the former First National Food Stores in Canaan, Conn., and Great Barrington from 1939 to 1964. From 1964 until 1976, he worked at Nejame's Market in Stockbridge and, from 1976 to 1982, at Rising Paper Co., from which he retired. He was a communicant of All Saints' Church, where he was a member of its Holy Name Society and an envelope recorder. He was a past president of the Polish Falcons of America and a member of Adams-Budz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8183, both in Housatonic. His wife, the former Sophie Gromelski, whom he married Jan. 5, 1946, died Feb. 13, 2000.He leaves a son, John P. Budz of Chicopee; three daughters, Anna B. Golas of Holden, Mary Jane E. Kraszeski of Berlin and Patricia A. Dymek of Housatonic; a brother, Joseph Budz of Great Barrington; a sister, Nellie Nalty of Great Barrington; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew, Louis and Henry. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 20, at 8:15 a.m. from HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME, to be followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in All Saints' Church, with the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to All Saints' Church or to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
