Johanna A. New

Johanna A. New, 94, of 899 South Main St., Bostwick Gardens, died Saturday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home. Born in Norfolk, Conn., on April 16, 1907, daughter of Battista and Maria Zanzi Georgis, she moved to Great Barrington with her family in 1923. Mrs. New was employed by the former Great Barrington Manufacturing Co. for eight years. She was a winter resident of Lake Wales, Fla., from 1971 to 1990 and a summer resident of Monterey for many years. Her husband, Edward F. New Sr., whom she married Oct. 5, 1926, died May 10, 1994. She leaves a son, Edward F. New Jr. of Stockbridge; a daughter, Cynthia McHugh of Great Barrington; a sister, Edith Mazzer of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. Another son, Francis E. New, died July 24, 1987, and a daughter, Priscilla J. Ball, died April 20, 2001. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9:30 from HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Peter's Church celebrated by the Rev. William H. Wallis, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 9 to 9:30. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Peter's Church Ramp Fund, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
