Ruth I. Cassavant, 93

LEBANON SPRINGS, N.Y. — Ruth I. Cassavant, 93, of 5 Main Street passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's and dementia.
A longtime Lebanon Springs resident, she was born in Pittsfield on July 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Frank and Marion Johnston Miller St. Hart. She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She married her husband, the late Albert P. Cassavant, on May 12, 1940, in Bennington, Vt. He died on January 11, 2008.
A homemaker, she had also owned and operated Tyron House Antiques in Lebanon Springs for many years with her late husband. She had also worked at one time at the former Bonny Ski n' Sport for several years.
She was a member of the Church on the Hill in Lenox. She also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed animals and collecting antiques with her husband.
She leaves her son, Peter J. Cassavant and his wife Laurie of Lenox; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Thomas W. Cassavant; and by a daughter, Susan Cassavant.
Funeral notice: A private graveside service for Ruth I. Cassavant, who passed away February 1, 2017, will be held in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter both in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling arrangements.
