Shirley Mae Farley, 87

ADAMS, Mass. — Mrs. Shirley Mae (McCuen) Farley, 87, of Oakland Gardens, New York, formerly of Adams, Mass., died on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Calvary Hospital in Bronx, New York.

She was born in Ontario, Canada, on January 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Roger and Emma (Boehm) McCuen. She attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. She had attended Queens College, where she enjoyed English and creative writing.

Mrs. Farley was a homemaker dedicated to her family. Shirley was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting in oil, watercolor and charcoal. She also loved creating sculptures. She won several awards for her artwork. Shirley was also an avid gardener and lover of animals.

Her husband, John V. Farley Jr., whom she married on April 10, 1953, died on June 30, 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine O'Leary and her husband Michael of Norwalk, Conn.; two sons, Michael Farley and his wife Maryellen of Dumfries, Va., and Daniel Farley and his wife Amie of Flushing, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Derek, Diana, Dan and Julianne; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Germanowski.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Rev. Michael Mullany, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, Adams, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128-6804.
