JOHN F. ZAVERUKA

John F. "Skinny" Zaveruka, 85, formerly of 17 Whittier Ave., died Saturday at Monarch Assisted Living Center at the Village at Laurel Lake in Lee, where he had resided since September 1999. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 7, 1915, son of Harry and Mary Pietraszczuk Zaveruka, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1936, where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Zaveruka was employed by the former Bond Bread Co. as a rural route salesman for 20 years. He also worked for the state Department of Natural Resources, retiring in 1975 after 10 years of service. He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, an active member of the Italian American Club and a member of American Legion Post 68. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. His wife, the former Ann Marie Nuciforo, whom he married Oct. 4, 1941, died Aug. 26, 1995. He leaves two daughters, Judith M. Bollinger and Annamarie Carmon, both of Pittsfield, and four grandchildren. Mr. John F. "Skinny" Zaveruka, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. Beloved father of Judith M. Bollinger and Annamarie Carmon. Loving grandfather of David Bollinger Jr., Lisa Bollinger, Dennis E. Charron Jr. and Kristen Carmon. The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 9:15 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, Jan. 9, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
