Alfred J. Shaker

Alfred J. Shaker, 88, formerly of 55 North Holden St., died Saturday at North Adams Commons. Born in North Adams on Sept. 19, 1913, son of Abraham and Julia David Shakar, he was a 1931 graduate of Drury High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. Mr. Shaker was employed by the former Arnold Print Works until it ceased operations. He also worked at GE and at the former Strong & Hewat Co. in Clarksburg for many years. He was last employed as a stock clerk at Cariddi Sales Co. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, the North Adams Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310 and the Lebanese Social Club. He leaves four brothers, David A. Shaker and John J. Shakar, both of North Adams, Marshall J. Shakar of Orlando, Fla., and Edward J. Shaker of Danbury, Conn. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Mary O'Brien, Rita Shakar and James Shaker. A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Alfred J. Shaker will be held Wednesday at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
