NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lawrence (Larry) James Whalen, 52, of North Adams died on Friday, September 22, 2017, at home.

He was born on December 31, 1964 in Chicopee, Mass., the son of James J. Jr. and Carolyn G. (Bailey) Whalen. He attended Greenfield Schools and graduated from Greenfield High School. Prior to a disability Larry was employed by Rice's Ice in Greenfield, Mass.

He enjoyed training dogs and camping.

Larry was predeceased by his parents. 

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline A (Perras) Whalen, whom he married April 23, 2003; two brothers, David Whalen and his wife Lisa of Heath, Mass., and Mark Whalen of Keene, N.H.; a sister, Louise Wright and her husband Jim of Middlebury, Vt.; five step-children, including Robin Carchedi, Roberta Ovitt, Kevin Beliveau, Edward Chaffee Jr. and Zachariah Chaffee; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
