Rita C. Quinton

Rita C. Quinton, 74, of 368 Houghton St. died Saturday at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on March 23, 1927, daughter of Francesco and Lucy Scavo DePari, she attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1946. Mrs. Quinton was employed for many years with the Excelsior Process and Engraving Co. until her retirement in 1992. Prior to that, she had been employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. and the former J.J. Newberry Store. After her retirement, she worked part time at the Northern Berkshire Community Action. Mrs. Quinton was an active volunteer with many local organizations, including North Adams Regional Hospital, the Women's House of Peace, Our Lady of Mercy Shrine and Friends of the North Adams Public Library. She was a member of the Sprague Retirees Club, the Clarksburg Senior Citizens and the Socialite Club. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the North Adams Eagles. A communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, she was a member of its Rosary Society and was serving as its president at the time of her death. She was also a Eucharistic minister to homebound and hospitalized parishioners. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and crafts for church bazaars. Her husband, James Francis Quinton Sr., whom she married April 12, 1947, died Nov. 11, 1993. She leaves a daughter, Julie A. Daub of North Adams; two sons, James F. Quinton Jr. of Sanford, Maine, and Michael W. Quinton of Keene, N.H.; four sisters, including her twin, Catherine Crockwell of North Adams, Mary Dailey and Theresa Depari, both of North Adams, and Norma Napolitan of West Springfield, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to St. Francis Building Fund, the Women's House of Peace or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
